Get bedding for your wedding
Beliefs about bedding as a wedding gift vary widely depending on beliefs, traditions, your need for kitchen gadgets, and your family’s tendency for innuendo. Some families actually have a tradition of gifting a brand new bed each time a child gets married — just like they give cars for 16th birthdays.
If you take a second to think about it, your bed as an adult might even be more important than your first car. After all, if you’re planning a happy life together, you’ll need a good night’s sleep to keep you from getting cranky…and an oasis when one of you doesn’t get it.
Don’t forget to add these necessities to your registry. (Or register for 100 picture frames, which you can return to buy bedding for yourself.)
Bed Frame or Base
This is usually the big kahuna gift. Replace your Ikea or hand-me-down bed and consider a queen or king. Or discover the California king if you enjoy your personal space.
Quilts, Duvets & Afghans
This is the realm of tradition. It doesn’t matter if they’re made of yarn, t-shirts, or ties. Wedding blankets carry memories through the years.
Mattress
It’s a great registry option — just make sure to be involved in the shopping. The perfect bed is great for a marriage — but the wrong bed is not.
Sheets
This is your chance to bump up your thread counts, so don’t waste it! Be sure to consider both winter and summer bedding.
Pillows
It’s wise to visit stores, find the pillows you prefer, and register for them specifically. You can never have too many pillows!
Mattress Cover
This is one of those things that don’t seem important when you’re growing up. Trust us — it’s worth the gift karma it will cost to protect your mattress.
Guest Room
Don’t return the multiples! A great guest bedroom will help you get the most happiness out of your home.
